What is Aqiqah?

When a child is born, it is a Sunnah of Prophet (PBUH) to sacrifice livestock and distribute meat among friends, relatives, and needy community members. This is called Aqiqah and is a virtuous act in Islam. Slaughter two comparable sheep for a male newborn and one sheep for a female.” – (Sunan Ibn Majah Vol. 4, Book 27, Hadith 3163 )
